New 114 Savage American Classic
« on: October 03, 2005, 06:57:00 PM »
Surely someone has to have bought and fired one of these ??  Anyone out there been fortunate enough to take this gun to the range?  I saw one last weekend in a Gander Mtn, and it felt and handled great ......
Just waiting on someone to tell the story  about it on the line.....Thanks

I recently bought a 114 in .30-'06. I put Leupold two piece QR bases, and medium QR rings on it. It has a Leupold Vari-X 11, 3-9 X 40 scope. I like the box magazine, and the idea that I can adjust the trigger pull. Also, for a scoped .30-'06, it is not really heavy. I shot it this past weekend at 120 yards with 180 grain Hornady BTSP, over 47 grains of Winchester 748, for 2600 fps. Grouped up very well, with holes right next to holes. Action was smooth, factory set trigger pull O.K. (I will adjust trigger pull after hunting season) All in all I like this rifle.

I have the 1995 114 classic ultra in 7mm rem mag. It has the walnut stock and box magazine. I topped it off with a redfield 3x9x40 scope. It shoots 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

I saw  one this weekend at Gander Mtn. ,really like the look and fill of this rifle and may have to have one in 7mm08. Never owned a savage but hear they are great shooters, think i may give one a try. This one had a magizine clip but they are coming out with a hinged floorplate ,is what i was told . This is a great looking rifle.
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.
