Okay gang, i'm still waiting for my 6-24x24 mildot scope to come in the mail but i figured i might get an opportunity to shoot it today so i threw on a weaver k2.5 fixed 2.5x scope i had laying around.
We were out calling coyotes today and after one set it was a great little coulee to set up an quicky range. I started at 25 yrds and zeroed in a 1/2 dozen shots. I like shooting it, noticeable muzzle blast eh :eek:, but fun to shoot, very light recoil and mild on the boom compared to .243's and 25-06's that were keeping company today.
Then moved the target out to 100 yrds and i had it dialed in by the end of its first box of ammo. I had 5 shots into about 1.5" but am confident it will do better...i was just trying to zero it and only at 2.5x is not easy to shoot tiny groups with that trigger.
Anyhow, i felt good enough to carry it for the rest of the day. After another set of calling i ranged the opposite side of this valley at 329 yrds. When i zeroed it at 100 yrds i had it hitting between 1 and 1.5" high fyi. We had just gotten a fresh 2" of snow overnight and they were steep valley walls. There were some great side banks with fresh snow and only black dirt behind them so you could pick the odd spot of dirt peeking out of the snow to aim for and see how you did.
My buddy shooting a sako .243 with cheap winchester 80 grain pointed soft points looked to be hitting about 6-8" low when aiming at certain points. And his gun groups those very well. And i believe he's zeroed right at 100 yrds. I was aiming directly at these little spots and hitting them! :eek: Everytime too! I certainly impressed my buddy with the .243. It may have been hard to tell if i was hitting them 1-2" low but when we were looking at them at the time of trigger pull...we watched the spot go 'poof' and then it would be a little bigger of a dark spot...right where the smaller one started. It was very obvious.
Simply one of the finest shooting experiences i've had. To look at something that far away...with a 2.5x scope and hit it shot for shot on a brand new gun with less than 40 rounds through it! I'm very impressed.
I think i'll get used to the extractor too. It will slow me down forsure but first shot should always count. Once i get my other scope on it and can shoot it a bit more to check on groups etc. i will post more...and i think its safe to say its worth it to spend on getting a trigger job done on this one too.
