Remington 760 rear sight
« on: January 17, 2006, 05:00:09 AM »
I just picked up a older Rem 760.  This is my first one and although its old it was in very good shape and the price was right.

I dilemma is that the previous owner removed the rear sight to mount a scope and misplaced the sight.

The sight is the dove tail style.  I have been unable to find one.  Numrich shows them to be out of stock and Brownells doesn't list one.

Perhaps someone could point me in the direction where I might be able to locate one.

Thanks a bunch.

Marbles makes a variety of rear sights to fit the dovetail.  I don't know the height required by your front sight though.  Remington would be another source.

EVOC ONE:

Years ago I removed the rear sight on my Remington 760.  I replaced it with a Lyman folding sight.  I have not looked at the Lyman webpage for a long time but they might show it.

I sighted it in, folded in down and have never used it.  I have upgraded the scope a time or two but never had to to use the backup folding sight because of scope failure.

Thanks for the info, gentleman.  I had not considered aftermarket but after your suggestions I went back through the Brownells manual and found the Marbles sights.  They even list which one that fits the 760.

The Remington site provided plenty of resources around the country where I may obtain an original.  I made a couple calls, but no luck yet.  I was told by one fellow that he just sold the last one he had, but he gets them pretty reguarly.  So it looks good that I'll be able to get an original.

I didn't have much luck on the Lyman website, but I don't think I got to the right area.

Again, thanks for the assistance.
