Are there any out there?        Do any of you shoot the originals?

I have Tryon-1848 that I've had a lot of help with in cleaning back up to a field grade weapon. I'm at a point where I'm thinking of doing a bit of shooting with it but....I'd like to get some input from others who have shot or are shooting some of the originals. I don't want to blow off the side of my face or or secondly, ruin the rifle.

Original specs for a load was 55 grains of bp.  Is anyone using that load? If so what is your rifle grouping at 50 yards?

I have a hankering to fit my weapon with a bayonet and am not having a whole lot of luck locating one.  I almost bought one but it didn't quite fit my barrel. The thought is that standardization was not closely followed among the many manufactures at  that time in history.  If anyone might have a lead on one I'd like to hear about it

samchap.

Check with Tennessee Valley Manufacturing. It's Jack Garner's business and they are located in Northern Miss. At least, I think it's his. There are two TVM muzzleloading businesses in north miss. Jack started the first one, then there was an off shoot from that one. Check the web for specific details and location, but he built the flint rifle I shoot, and if anyone would be plugged into local black-powder shooting, it would be him.
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:
