Just a few (maybe several) lines to say Hello and to tell all about my new to the brand experience.
Been reading alot about the Savage and Stevens lately after hanging out mostly on the NEF/H&R side of things. I still have a couple of them and will probably allow them to stay in the safe.
I bought the 10FP in 223 and after feeling another Savage model with synthetic stock and ordering the 10 at one of the local gunshops,,I really thought I'd like better stock. So back online to Cabelas and ordered the Bell&Carlson they offer for short action Savage guns. It arrived before my gun did,,and I was impressed. Got the black and webbed look. Nice! The gun came in this past week, and after giving a proper cleaning, I mounted the action to the new stock, it dropped right in too.
Yesterday was warm for Ohio in Jan. and decided to sight it in. I have 2 scopes that I wanted to use on this gun,,one an over powered Swift that I tried to sell once or twice and didn't and the other a new Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40. I'll use the Nikon for general all around shooting and the Swift just for paper.
After firing 6 rounds of 55gr fmj to get on the bull,,this gun shot groups of all the different brands ammo I had quite well. The best being 50gr hp made by American Eagle that I can cover with a nickel. I don't reload as yet,,and with accuracy like that I may or may not ever if the cost of remanufactured stuff stays reasonable.
The Savage gives me a new confidence that I never had with my single shot rifles.......especially shooting various brands of ammo.
Thanks for reading ,,and sharing any of your experiences.
