I havn't heard anything bad on the 204s as a whole on here, most of them are very accurate. I am going to order one myself and fluted is going to be my choice.

I haven't read anything that would indicate there's any advantage to the fluted barrel over the standard barrel unless the extra 2" makes a difference in the particular caliber. Flutes are totally Kool, though!! The optimum barrel length for the .204 is 23", so either the 22" or 24" will work fine, not much difference. Get the one you like best, performance will be similar.

like it or not they do cool faster and with a 204 cooling can be a problem . And two inches of barrel will make a difference .

BTW i only have regular 204 bull barrel but i do have a 223 fluted and its seams to cool real fast in comparison if i had the choice i would always go fluted, and the blueing's a lot better too.

I don't see the .204 listed at the NEF site. Is their site behind, or have they dropped the caliber?

I believe they only offer ther 204 Ruger in the Ultra Varmint Fluted. It has the Benchrest/Tactical type stock. If you look at the bottom of the rifle list on the web site you will see it. I have mine on order and I cant stand the wait. I think I am perpetually 12 years old.

I have both an Ultra Fluted and a Handi with the Choate Stock and forend in .204. I have only put about 40 rounds through the fluted .204 and only on paper. I feel no advantage one over the other. I have yet to shoot the Ultra past 200yds but both are almost equal as far as accuracy. Both heat up just as fast  and I have yet to see a big difference in "cool down time" between the two. But don't get me wrong, the fluted barrel looks awfully cool 8)  8)  I do need to get the chrono out and see what kinda difference there is in speed. I got a feeling it won't be much?
