What lb pull for small game?
« on: January 16, 2006, 03:41:49 AM »
I haven't shot a bow for 20 years since a shoulder injury, but am thinking of trying it again. I was thinking of a takedown recurve in low poundage for small game hunting only (plus casual target shooting). For small game hunting I would be using judo points or similar and at fairly close range. What pound pull would be sufficient for what I have planned?

30# should do just fine for what you want to do.

I agree with Ahab; however, having hunted with traditional equipment for about 54 years now, I would recommend moving up to your state's minimum for whitetail deer.  Once you get back to chasing rabbits and squirrels, along with the occassional varmit, you just might want to try for a deer again.  The difference in 'strain' between 30# and say 35# is not all that great, but the satisfaction of chasing deer with a recurve might be worth it.

Best of luck!
