I like the answer, the one you got when your last bird was shot. mine is the mossberge camo turkey gun. with extra full choke.if I point and clik, it does the trick. What more can you ask for? :) D.C.

I use a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum with a .660 Kicks Gobblin' Thunder choke. Definately no fun to shoot but it throws a pattern at 45 yards that has to be seen to be believed. Not a gun for everybody, but it sure works!

I have one of these with a set of National Wild Turkey Federation laminate stocks on it.  Light , fast, and handy.

I love my Mossberg 835 tactical turkey.  I bought it for fox origanaly but hot darn by goiing from 2 shot to hevi-shot #4 I don't have to  change the reddot for poi.  Fox or turkey will drop out to well past 50 yds.  farthest red fox was 82 paces from stand.  farthest turkey was 58 yds measured by rangefinder.  Its design allows it to be shot like a rifle and the adjustable stock allows you to custom some pretty interesting sitting positions

i am using a a charles daily maxi mag in camo pattern in 12 ga with a h.s. undertaker choke.  unfortunately my maxi mag is the waterfowl version with the long barrel, but the ported barrel is very nice, about the same recoil as target loads with my handloaded #4 with one and a half ounces of shot. my only complaint is just the length.

I am interested in the 835 tactical turkey. How is the pattern with the 20 inch barrel and how is the kick with the adjustable stock?

I currently have and shoot a 500, but want to move up to a 3.5 inch chamber. I am considering on of the 835 turkey models, or the Benelli nova, maybe steady grip.

Any recommendations?

the pattern is great like I said with the hevi-shot Critters taken out past 50 yds easily.  It aims not points which is a major advantage.  Recoil hurts.  tried the 3.5 and dropped down to the 3" remember though we aren't talking a gun you are going to be often firing 20 or 30 times.  once you have it sited in practice is easy.  I love my nova for geese(full lengh barrel) but had to choose the mossberg.  I did a comparison at cabela's and just liked it more.

Like said above, you have a ton of options and really can't go wrong with any of them.
I use a Rem 870 with full choke tube, but have also used a full choke NEF pardner with good results.
If I were looking to buy new, the only thing I'd be sure to get is a thumbhole stock.  When I think of most of my turkey experiences, that would really have helped hold/point/shoot when that tom is close and no movement is soo critical

on the mossy 835 i have a friend that has one and it patterns best with factory two and three quarters shells regular hard lead shot, so dont ever rule out two and three quarters thats what i shoot out f my gun too and i amp chambered for up to three and a half

I do agree. I usually use 2 3/4 for every thing but turkey fox and my long range goose gun.  Yes I do take two twelves with me to the goose blind.  I tried all three lenghts through the factory supplied turkey choke and didn't really notice a sizable differance.  I just like the extra couple pellets the three holds.  Yes the 3 1/2 holds even more but the recoil wasn't worth it in my book.  The main thing to consider as far as my gun goes is that it is more a rifle than shotgun in use.  My every day shotguns are fired ON AVERAGE 3 to 4 hundred times a year.  My turkey/ varmint mossberg is shot any were from 50 to a hundred times a year.

also in reply to my own post, also pattern the gun with many different chokes, as mine with my handloads patterns better with a modified than a h.s. strut undertaker, learned that the hard way.
