I was about to bid on e-bay yesterday for a small dictator replica when I realized that maybe I could take that money instead and make one of them myself if I had a lathe or milling machine? I've seen tons of guys on this site making their own barrels but really have no idea what kind of lathe or milling machine would be good for turning and boreing out a barrel? I'd like to start off with a machine that would allow me to make at least a steel dictator mortar replica that is at least large enough to shoot a soda can sized ball.Then maybe move up to making even larger mortars? I have tons of tools, welders, plazma cutter etc etc.. but I know practically nothing about lathes or milling machines. How big and what kind of a lathe would such a project require?? What is a reasonable price for a lathe and where can I look for one that is reasonably priced?
