I hope that it's me

I kinda wondering if it's me instead of the scope. On my 223 I can get a full view if I'm up close to the scope. That's when I sight in and I think she is ok. My problem is, Sometoimes I can get a full view not so close. Will this make a difference?  Also, is there something out there that I can put on my 45-70 stock to raise and also cushion my cheek? It seems that when I shoot I catch myself with my head cocked over to much to sight in.

I simple solution is to put a neoprene shell holder on the stock, or get one of the cheek pads like the Kick-Eez or those from Brownells.
