Targeting in on my first Mink thats not on an accident!!!
« on: January 21, 2006, 11:24:26 AM »
We had a really good snow storm last night here in Gilman City, Missouri and its been the first snow since Christmas. So I went out this morning planning on checking the big creek for mink tracks, but I decided to go to the pond where I caught my buck mink first and to my amazement I found LOADS of mink tracks all around the pond. I would have to say at least 3 mink were at the pond it couldn't of just been one. I set 8 110s, 6 of them were in muskrat holes. The other two I kind of made my own sets with. I seen a spot where the mink had broke the ice and came up on land I set a 110 right there 1/2 way out of the water with sticks around it and over it so it would have to go through the 110. I found another spot where mink went out onto this log and into the water so I set a 110 over this log. Then I also out of all 4 of my 1 1/2" Coilsprings only had one that has a lose enough pan for a mink so I set a blind set with it. The mink tracks go all the way around the pond on land except for this one spot wheres there is a big U where the water gos back further than in all the rest of the pond. So the minks tracks went from on land through the U in the water then back on land where the U stopped. I set my 1 1/2" Coilspring right there hoping that the mink would step there again next time it comes around. Now with that many tracks I was thinking these mink are probally female mink. So I am thinking I should have them soon. What do you guys think? Could they be male mink? And if they are it will probally be a week or two before they revisit the pond don't you think? Anyways thats what I did today. I have alltogether 8 110s, which are all at that pond for mink. 4 1/2" Coilsprings which 1 is at that pond, because its the only one that could catch a mink. And 1 330. So 9 out of 13 of my traps are at that pond dedicated to catching the mink. So do you guys think I have good chances of getting this mink?
