Converted Military as Hunter
« on: January 23, 2006, 03:49:26 PM »
A decade ago I got a "Century Hunter" Swedish Mauser to try HP Sil. This was a package offered to FFL's with a 96 with barrel cut to 22", a Choate plastic stock, and D&T for the included Ironsighter rings. I dropped in a Timney Sportsman trigger that doesn't go below 2 lbs. Assuming this rig with scope (steel Weaver T-24) isn't over 9 lbs, this is now a hunter class gun?

I think we can give you a definite "Probably".

Under the current rules, if it isn't a thumbhole and it 'looks like' a hunter, it's a hunter. (You do have to make weight, meet the scope height and bbl length requirements, etc, etc. but what you describe sounds like it's inside the regs.)
There may be some ? about the military style taper on the bbl. The rule requires that it be a 'hunting style' tapered bbl. At any of our local matches, you'd have no problem. I can't speak for other areas.

(The way it usually works is simple. If you start winning, the whiners come out of the cracks and complain about anything they can find on your gear. If you're just running with the pack having fun -- and there's no flagrant rule violation -- nobody cares...)

I'll shoot a match and see. I can go to the location where the Michigan State Championships are later held - it's 75 miles away. As for me grabbing the awards and glory - shooting in hunter means that I might get out of B sometime in the next 6-8 matches as I never shot a standard HP A score.  I did get the SB Htr to AA before we lost our club's dedicated Sil range.

Best of luck.
Maybe we'll see each other on the range one day.
