I'm looking to put a scope on my Ruger Super Blackhawk. I was thinking about the simmons 2-6. How is it? Can it hold up to the recoil? Any info would be appreciated.

My Mag-Na-Port Stalker has a 2X Leupold on it. Some consider this low powered, but it works for deer hunting in the SE and for groundhogs in WV. Other scopes I use are the 4X Leupold, Burris 2-7X, and the Bushnell 2-6X Elite 3200. I have no experience with the Simmons, but it seems to hold up for some people I know. The Elite 3200 has a long eye relief, so if you have short arms, you may not want to consider it. I'm 6'1" and sometimes I have to stretch to get full view in the scope, depending on the hunting situation. If you live near a large sporting goods store, or close enough to make a day trip for that matter, it is highly adviseable to look through as many different models as you can to see which fits you best.

I like the 2x Leupold. It's very forgiving. Target acquisition is easier than my other handgun scopes. The reticle is just the right size. It's more compact and lighter than most of the others. My shots at deer can be at 100 yards and I see no disadvantage to the 2x. Its recoil resistance has been excellent-- it survived a 7 foot drop to concrete after a Weaver scope mount sheared off of my 44 and the scope flew up and dropped. I'd buy another one.

For more magnification, I've been pleased with the Burris 2-7x.

My only simmons scope is a 22 magnum model for a .22 rifle. It was a good value for the money.

You would be better with a Bushnell 2X6X32mm scope. The Simmons is not as reliable and has not been a good performer on heavier recoil handguns.

I had a Simmons 4X on my Super Blackhawk Hunter. It failed after about 40 rounds. I sent it back to Simmons for repair. It came back and failed again after about 100 rounds. The Hunter now wears a Nikon 2X and it has held up so far. About 200-300 rounds through it so far. It never fails, if you spend the money for a good scope initially, it will save you money in the long run.

I'm selling my Nikon 2X, if you're interested. It's coming off my SBH. It works great, but I don't like the extra weight and bulk. If you want to se a pic, send me a PM.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm probably going to go with the Leupold 4X. I have a burris 2-7 on my contender but I think it would be a little big for the ruger. I don't really want to go with the 2X because my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Nikon 2x a great scope, had one on my SBH. I did not want to tap and drill for a mount, went to a B-Square mount. This is really a bad choice. If you want a scoped Ruger get a "Hunter".

I have an early 90's Super Blackhawk that I bought new then. It's been sitting in my safe for at least 10 years. I'm not very good with open sights on a pistol so I ordered the Weigand base for it and Leupold rings. It should be plenty strong enough. I'm new to revolver hunting so this is the easiest route for me. If I like it I will probably graduate to a Bisley hunter or a Freedom Arms.

You want to remember, the higher the power of a scope, the narrower your field of vision, while looking through it. Unless your shooting long distances power isn't that important especially in the deep woods. Then again, if your shooting at several hundred yards power is very important.

hoser, if you like the burris on your contender you might consider a 1.5x4 in a burris. I have 2x7 and a 1.5x4.

I like the 1.5x4 for a 44 mag.

if the magnification is not enough the target is probally to far to kill for a 44 magnum. 7bru

I have been using a Burris 2-7 on one of my .500's and it has worked well although I have had to take it back to Burris once. I was shooting it two days before scheduled bear hunt when I blew it apart. I had to drive in to Burris (fortunately I live within 2 hours) and they got it fixed and back out for me in time to make a quick range trip before going on the hunt.

I had a Burris 2-7X fail after 10 shots on a 44 Mag Contender, never had problems with Nikon and Leupolds that I've owned.

I have a 2x20 Nikon on my Old Model SBH. Problem is I can shoot better groups with open sights then with the scope. The base and rigs seem to be tight and the scope doesn't appear to be moving. It might be an internal problem. Is there is way to check if something is loose inside the scope body?

I used a burris 1.1 power on my mod 29 44cal for hunting and bulls eye competition. Fired over 1000 full power rounds. Very durable. Finally sheared off the base screws during a shooting session, scope hit my forehead then the rocks, scope undamaged, head hurting a bit, strong scope, thick skull, weak screws. I recommend burris.

My SBH wears a 2X Leupold in Leupold double dovetail rings and mounts. It never moves. There have been times when peering toward a Whitetail standing 75-100 yards distant, I could swear the darn thing was mounted backward! The actual magnification is only about 1.7. My best shot.....97 yards......last year I missed at 67, but she had me twisted all the way around the tree.

T/C makes a 1.5-4. I have no experience with this scope, but they are touted to hold up well under recoil.
