44 mag Winchester Partition Gold
« on: March 03, 2006, 03:53:50 AM »
Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right spot so if it is not, feel free to move me. My question is the Winchester Partition Gold bullets in 44mag. Bass Pro has them and I was just wondering how they were performance wise for hunting. I think they were 250(?) gr but I am not sure. Specifically I would be hunting Whitetail and maybe hogs. I currently have the federal 300gr hardcast for hogs, but keeping my options open. So any opinions?

Thanks in advance,
   Robb

Not sure about the bullets you mentined.  I used to use the Hornaday XTP for deer and the Gold Dot soft point in 270 grain for hogs.  I then switched to the 270 GDSP for all hunting in my 629 handgun.  It seems to have a grea track record and I have to agree it is a great bullet.

As far as the hard cast gas check bullets, they are very reliable.  I have used a 240 gr RNFP-GC hard cast bullet for years.  I use a pull down powder (WC820) and achieve 1535 fps velocity from my 14" Contender.  I have a lot of confidence in this bullet and would use it in the woods anytime.  ;)
Just another voice in the crowd!!!

I took the 250 grain Partition elk hunting last year.

Never got a chance to prove their worth in my Mod 94, but I am sure they would have proven fatal at under 100 yards.

I also like the 250 grain Winchester SilverTips in .44 mag.
YOU GUYS!!! You guys see the size o' that CHICKEN?!?!?!

I use the 250 gr Nosler PT in my 629 for WT Deer hunting around the house. I have also used it in my 50 cal Muzzle loader.
Pure poision on deer and pigs.

I guess it depends on where you hunt.  I have used the .44 PG bullets on Texas Whitetails, but thought they were too heavily constructed.  I prefer to use something like the R-P 240 JHP on small deer, but the PGs should work just fine on those big deer like those JD338 is hunting in Michigan.  I have not used them on pigs, but have used them on Black Bear, and got text book expansion.

I have also used the 44 Platinum Point bullets on deer and pigs, and they perform almost exactly like the PG bullets.  I suspect that the platinum point will eventually replace the partition gold as Winchester's proprietary bullet, as IMHO, Winchester seems to be moving away from the "Combined Technology" partnership with Nosler.
No such thing as too dead.
