brass thickness for knife sheath or sword scabbards?
« on: February 22, 2006, 11:30:28 AM »
Anyone have experience putting a brass tip or throat on a knife or sword scabbard?
What thickness of brass would you suggest?
I've only got hand tools[pliers, metal snips, small ball peen hammer].
I'm trying to re-create a knife sheath and a hunting sword scabbard of the 1740- 1800 period.
Thanks.

Only thing else you need is a belt grinder to make the wood forms, a torch and bucket of water to aneal with and a solder to match the brass for nickle silver.

I like the 32 thousanths for metal sheaths.  I've seen them done thinner, but it's to easy to grind a hole in it when cleaning up.  Ask me how I know.
