carburizing
« on: January 30, 2006, 06:38:58 AM »
I have a Belgium FN 98 a Higgins Model 50 that is being metal worked and as well am having Stuart Satterlee performing the labor. I neglected to ask him if because the metal is newer meaning the bolt hardness, do I need to be concerned about lapping lugs and soft metal which is the problem with the older Mausers when taking off  the hard surface to perform this service? The older Mausers when this is done generally need to be "carburized" if I am not mistaken after the fact. The face retrued as well. Naw. If this long action was designed with the higher pressures of todays powders it should  be just fine. Correct?
