Toke out the 6x47 for a test run. Set up the Chrono. Had two loads, 20 55gr Nolser BT and 10 68gr Buno BR br bullets. It was a desaster only 7 out of the 30 fired. Even though I installed a new hammer spring and tried two primers at home.

Contrary to my own findings I used the CCI small Match primers which gave trouble in my Viper action in 6ppc.

The velocities were very close to the Quick Lod prediction, 3398 for the 55g5r and a 3140 for the 68gr. After fire forming the case volume increased to excactly 33.0gr from 30.4gr H2o 33.0gr is what it supposed to be according to QL. So the last two shots after the rough sighting in. Bingo two shots in one hole, tried four more cases but no spark.

So now I have to do that all over again. The new load can stand a bit more powder. It looks like the 3550 at 57k will be right on. and 3200 for the 68gr bullets. But these are to expensive too shoot at varmints. It looks like the 55 or 58 gr will do just fine. No recoil and not much noise.
That 4-12 Bushnell scope is not too bad either.

I came away ok with 5 new loads for the 257R with the 75gr V-max what a sizzler that is at 3577ft. But these are a bit sticky. Wont need that rifle for varmints after I get that wee 6mm going.

Here is a bit of a write up on my web site.

Fred'

aren't CCI's known for harder cups than most other primers?   if you used a Win' primer would that make a difference?  i use Rem' 7 1/2 BR's in the .223 many times, with some Win's; and use Win's and CCI' in the larger cartridges.   i bend the 'tang' on the Handi' hammer springs to do my trigger jobs and have not had any problems so far (it has worked like a charm for me).   and i have fired a lot of rounds out of that heavy-barreled Handi'.

by any chance have you used a primer pocket uniformer that may be doing too much work on the brass?

let us know,

I use CCI for my .223 ultra and I have never had a problem.

I have three cases I load with small rifle primers namely 6PPC, 30BR and now 6x47. I uniform every primer pocked  on every case I load.

Uniform flash holes and deburr the inside flash hole. Depending on the case they all are outside neck reamed. The 6x47 get a partial outside neck ream about 75% and so is the 257R.

Yes I know the CCI small match primers are hard, my 6ppc Viper action will ignite about 7 out of ten, but I refused to install a heavier spring that Stiller offered and use Fed Match primers with no trouble.

The 30BR Kodiak Ation will handle the CCI Small match with no trouble because it has a stronger spring. Kelbly desined the spring to fire both large and small primers.

I had thought with the new hammer spring they would work, but they don't. While I have other primers like the Fed , Rem and Winchester that will work. I should have tried more at home.

The case has zero head space and the breech is tight no space whatsoever. The firing pin projection is 0.041". So it is my fault for the trouble, nothing like self inflicted pain. It hurts the most.

Also I learned a few thing so it was not a completly wasted effort.

Well I am going to use them up in my 30BR. They are a good primer if the work in your gun that is why I tried to use them.

Well Fred I am sure things will work out and I wish you luck. I was wondering though what is your favorite primer. All I ever used was winchester and cci.

thanks,

John

Fred, I like the Rem 7-1/2 BR primers.

Over 20,000 223's over the years, using the Rem 7-1/2 br primer, and not a single dud; that's in 3 Rem 788 and 2 Rem M700 rifles.

Also, several thousand 218BEE in a handi rifle, same result.

Last year no duds in over 500 22 jet shot out of my Topper.

Get 'emby the case that way you'll never run out.

Your hyperlink won't work until you remove the last period at the end; then it will.

Sounds like a very interesting cartridge; how does it compare with say, a 6mm BR?  I think an AR15 action chambered in that wildcat would be slick.  Does it go by any other names or have any very similar wildcats?

You are right about the period easy to miss, I fixed the ones I found. Thanks for mention it.

The 6x47 has less volume than thte 6BR Norma, it is about the same as a 6ppc. it is a 243x 222Rem Mag with no case changes other than expanding the neck.
H2o volume is 33.0gr to overflow.
