I have some questions for you.
What regulations,do you have on the use of body gripping traps? Also, what condions will you be trapping under?--Snow?bare ground?
I do carry a very good fisher video by bob noonan, also some good books and videos on cat trapping.
Answers will filter in,especially after we find out the answers to my questions, just makes it easier ,if we know how you will have to trap.

You will save a lot of time and get off on the right foot if you buy some instruction books and/or videos.  As for Fisher, Grimshaw Trappers Supply sells a good fisher book for about $5.00, "Trapping The Fisher" by Frank Gabel. Call Paul Grimshaw at 518-298-2779 for his trapping supply catalog or information on the book. Grimshaw trappers Supply is right in your own state at Champlain NY. Ace

run n gun where about are from, i live in the adirondacks myself.  i have caught many fisher and some cats in this area.  as bog said i need some more info such as your bait or lure choice, # of traps you will run, style of trap, domestic animals around?, size of trap and when you plan on setting your line.  with some info i could suggest a set that you can try; keep in mind anything beyond a 220 on land is illegal. will check this forum on monday

In northern michigan I used to use 220 conibears in cubbies and leaning tree sets, as well as 1.5 and 1.75 coil springs in dirthole and blind sets around carcasses.  I found skunk scent to attract the fisher as well as any other.

I live in forestport.  25 miles from old forge.  I have never trapped before so EVERYTHING will be new to me.  I still have to take the trapping class.  I've seen alot of fisher while deer hunting and running my dogs on hare.  I also see an ocassional bobcat track also.  I will not be trapping back in the big woods no where near any pets.  as for baits & traps etc.  I have no idea.  I will not be trapping until next season so I have a year I get everything set.  I want to start trapping to get more time in the field.  Any info would be appreciated

run n gun  get your course under your belt and then start reading about the subject. join the state and national assoc. next some 220 conis and #2 coil will cure your fishers and cats. cubby sets for fishers and big dirthole for cats, try light colored feathers for eye appeal. beaver bait is king here for bait.  if not some tainted fish will work but seems to draw more dom. cats and stinkers.  as your skill improves try new sets, lures, etc.  oh a couple more things; stay on the ground for fishers, muskrat makes a great bait, set to hide your catch (thieves are like fleas)  get well off the road, and one last thing fishers are location location location.   i live in remsen so im sure we will probably see each other around good luck.
