Pre-64 Model 70 vs. Model 70 Classic
« on: March 15, 2006, 03:55:53 AM »
Can someone, perhaps even MD, tell me what the differences are in the ACTIONS as regards the above two Model 70's (both the controlled round feed type).  In particular, I am curious as to what changes might have been made to the current Model 70 Classic action with regard to gas diverting/safety in the event of a case failure, etc.  The book I was reading (Bolt Action Rifles) seems to indicate there are some slight changes, but didn't really give details.  I know this was something that some considered an issue with the Pre-64, and I'm wondering if/how Winchester (USRAC) addressed this.

I have also posted this in the Hunting Rifles Forum.

Thank you.
