Ruger #1 in 9.3X74R
« on: February 03, 2006, 12:22:33 PM »
I noticed in the 2006 Ruger catalog they list a 9.3X74R in a No. 1H (tropical) with a 24" BBL, which will put it over 9 pounds. I am a fan of the Ruger No. 1 and own a No. 1B in a .270 Weatherby. I also like the .366 bore and have a very accurate 9.3X62 in a CZ550 American. I relayed this bit of information to a friend of mine who was looking for a single shot or double in the 9.3X74R and in our discussion remarked how we lamented that Ruger dropping the #1S with a lighter barrel that was 26" long; and how it would better suit the "9.3".  He called Ruger the next day; it seems they have had many people call them expressing that same opinion.  They told my friend that they have decided to market the new caliber in the 1S vice the 1H.  Great, just when I decided I didn't really need a new rifle this year :-D .  Anyway, just thought I would pass it on. Knowing how long it takes Ruger to get a rifle from their brochure to the gun dealers, we should see this offering by 2008 (ala their side-by-side). Regards - Jager
