My new K-22

Hi all, I just bought  my first k-22 off gunsamerica. It is a five screw. serial number is K 1060xx. My dealer told me it was made in 1951. It has non-original fake antler grips. It is in about 95% condition with light bluing wear and patina but no gouges or dings. Amazing trigger and smoothness. It also has a chechered target style hammer that is about .429" wide(a .44mag case barely fits over it) but it has the standard serrated trigger. Is this strange? Is the hammer original? Is there anything else you can tell me about my gun? I have not shot it yet but I allready love it . I bought it for small game hunting and plinkin. I will let you know how it shoots. Mine is a few years older than yours and also has the checkered hammer.  I replaced the original wood grips with Hogue grips.  It improved the handling of the gun for my large hands, and I don't add any more wear to the wood grips.  Paid $275 for mine.

Congratulations on buying a great .22 rimire revolver. My K-22 was made in 1954 and is one of my favorite handguns. I'm not sure about the hammer, it may be a replacement made by a target shooter using the single action mode. Are you going to replace the grips? Fake stag... the K-22 deserves better! Good luck with your new classic.

I also have a model made in 1951. I have seen this odd trigger hammer size difference in the past. They used to let guys order the OPTIONS they wanted on early K-22's and that is why your's is like that. This one is my favorite and was made in 1967.The shorter barreled blue model was made in 1958 and is a model 18, which is alot harder to find than the 17. They BOTH are deadly accurate and sad that S&W is not making this quality any more.. Regards, Hammerdown.

CB-- I am sure you will love it. The past year has been VERY good to me as far as K 22's go. This one is from an earlier time period, but she can hold her own.  :grin:  I felt inclined to treat her to some Ivories as well. :)
