looking for loading information
« on: February 16, 2006, 01:43:54 PM »
I need loading information for a .452 -300 gr bullet out of the 45 colt (encore and contender 45-410 barrels) and 454 casull.

I can not find any information in any of my cast bullet handbooks, they don'e even have a listing for the 454. I guess it is time to buy some up dated books.

With the GC bullets from the mould you are buying from me use the data for 300 grain jacketed bullets and you'll do fine. You can use jacketed data for lead bullets safely since they have less friction in the barrel and thus produce less pressure. In a revolver the only concern is that they must be seriously hard not to damage the forcing cone. In the Encore that's not a concern.

Thanks,
I do normally use jacketed load data if I can not find data for cast bullets.

Most of my books don't even list a single load for the 454 and I have only 1 load for a 300 gr bullet in the 45 colt. May be time to up date some of my favorite manuals

I am still using the
speer #11 (I love this book, it is held together by duct tape)
hornady 4 th edition
sierra 3 rd edition
Lyman 46 edition
Lyman cast bullet handbook 3 rd edition

I did just get the lee 2 edition  :-D

This is off of what has been a reliable site for load data.  As always, start lower and work up to what's posted since all firearms are individuals with unique tolerances.
