Encore 375 H&H Magnum

The Encore is a fairly light gun so the recoil of the .375 H&H Mag. chambering is more noticible than in a heavier gun but still quite tolerable off hand or from shooting sticks.  For shooting off the bench, you might want to invest in a Lead Sled.

The bullets I've tried include Sierra 270 gr. Game Kings, Hornady 300 gr. Spire points and Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullets.  All provided very acceptable hunting accuracy with Reloader 15 but the Game Kings were a bit more accurate for me.

I have a Leupold 3 - 9X scope on mine.  If you get your head too close to it (mine doesn't have a muzzel brake) it will bite you.

Here is a Zebra I got with mine.

Congrats & great picture!

What kind of accuracy did the Sierra's provide?

I got about 2 MOA with them off the bench.  I don't consider Sierra Game Kings the best bullet but with something like a .375 H&H Magnum even if the bullet "fails" there is probably going to be enough lead left to do the job on plains game.  I thought accuracy was the most important consideration.

If I had used Barnes bullets on the Zebra, the bullet would have gone clear through the Zebra, as it turned out, I have only one hole in my Zebra hide.

With one hole that means that the bullet expanded all its engery inside the animal. I mean the animal is dead. :D

There is a lot of things it can indicate. Bullet failure, poor penetration. I would rather have an exit hole.

Hey guys finally got up to the range today with the 375H&H Encore. I boresighted the gun there and shot a box of Remington 270gr.soft points . I was very pleased with the accuracy i put 4 shots in a little over a inch at 60yds. The recoil was a little more than my 300win mag really no big deal.  The 375H&H is now my favorite new caliber.  Thanx for the input guys.

Hi JRKRK,

I have a .375 H&H on my Encore.  Originally had the plastic stock and forend, but the forend mounts would break from recoil, so I went to wood.  Still had a pretty good kick on the bench with my .270 SP Hornady bullets, 77.2 grns of IMR-4350, so I sent it to KDF in Seguin, TX for a muzzle brake and Pachmayer Decelerator pad.  Shoots like a .30-06 now and I like it a lot better.  If you go with a muzzle brake, just be sure to wear hearing protection.  Shot a Remington 700, .375 H&H with a KDF about 4 years ago.  It's definitely a sound you won't soon forget.  My ears rang for 2-days after just one shot.  Good luck!

one good shot is worth the wait !!!

I hate to see a bullet hole where the bullet comes out. That means it didn't release all of it energy inside. Thats how I see it. Even if it goes to pieses all those pieses are inside killing the animal. :D
