Hey Guys_____ I have a SBH 44 mag. 4 5/8 barrel, just put on a steel Bird head grip and want to cut barrel (either to 4in. or just below) for a better balance (I know that might be subjective).I want it to match my ruger 45 bird head witch (I think is ,just under a 4in.barrel).Now, the question is ,can I go as short as the 45 (to 4in. or just below) and not lose any effectiveness of the 44 mag. ,either for self defense(blk. bears) or short range hunting(bow range) for deer. This is mainly going to be a woods packing gun. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we do have lots of blk. Bears ____ THANKS BAYRUNNER

I can be cut down as low as the extractor housing if you desire.

If you shorten it to less then 4 5/8s you will have to shorten the ejector housing also. Ive got alot of 4 inch single actions and they loose very little in efectiveness. But then a good hard cast .44 or 45 with a 250 hard cast will do alot of killing.

If its a really short bear stopper you want then consider ponying up for a SRH 2" 454 Casull.

Where'd ya get the steel bh grip???, would love to have one of those......

Also, How expensive are they???
