RCBS verse Redding on Resizing (.45 Colt)
« on: February 09, 2006, 03:38:30 PM »
I have been reloading for the .45 Colt for a little over two years and started with the RCBS dies. Good accuracy and no problems.

I recently tried a Redding die which I inherited last year.
I noticed that the RCBS tended to resize the head area less (0.375) slight bulge while the Redding would iron the head on down to 0.190 from the rim.

The Redding die does produce a tidier looking case but is it needlessly overworking the brass from an RCBS viewpoint?

To view the bottoms of both dies it is easy to see that the RCBS has a deeper carbide insert that has more taper at the base.
I think that I will stick with the RCBS but would appreciate your thoughts on how the differences may/or may not affect the consistency of my reloads.
Thanks :D

Glanceblamm,

I think you would be better served with the RCBS dies, If in fact you don't notice any resistance in the loading of your cylinder. I personly prefer RCBS dies to all others myself Hope this helps :D  .......Joe.........
