Remington Powder?
« on: February 11, 2006, 08:28:20 AM »
Anyone know what powder Remington uses in their Express Core-Lokt 243 Win 100 Gr. PSP model R243W3?  I would like to reload these identical to their factory spec.

Thanks.

Chuck

No one can give you the answer to that question and even if they did it would be of no value to you. Ammo makers do not use the same cannister powders we as reloaders have available to us. They buy in huge quantity lots and by specific burn characteristics they want. They then test each lot and develop their load data based on those tests.

Your best bet would be to study the load manuals to find suitable powders that deliver the performance you seek and then develop your loads just as do the ammo makers.

Dupont was the parent corporation of both Remington and the powders now known as IMR. Most likely they still use powder from them more than others but you'll never learn that info from Remington.

Graybeard:  I appreciate the help.  I'll try some IMR 4350 and see if I can match the stock ammo through a chrony.  All I'm doing is target shooting and would like to go as cheap as I can.  The price per 100 on the 100 grain bullets from Remington is very reasonable.

Thanks.

Chuck,

GB said it all, however Here is the data I have which may help.
REM R243W3 100g PSPCL - MV2960 ME1945 - source:Ammo & Ballistics Ed II

Given that, I show a full load of H4350 will only deliver +/- 2900FPS
I show that H4831SC, RL 19, RL22, AA3100, and H450 are all capable of delivering right about 3000FPS with a 100g bullet and not going overpressure.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Ron.  I like the way Accurate Arms powder pours better.  I was looking at the 3100.  I use AA 2460 for my 30-30 and it's very user friendly.
