Pachmayer makes both 1.1" and 1.5" thick decelerator recoil pads.
Also there is the Limbsaver pad.
I would like opinions on which would be the absolute best pad for heavy 45-70 loads in an 1895 levergun.
tks

Hope this helps. I put a Limbsaver on my 870 12ga. and with 23/4 rifled slugs and I can shoot about 20 in a row. Without any problem or sore or brused shoulder. When I get done its like I havent shot. Believe me I'm completely sold When it comes to recoil I'm extreamly sensitive.

A few years ago, I would have said Decelerator every time. After I bought my first Limbsaver pad, I've never bought another Decelerator. There's no contest between. The Limbsaver is much better.

All my rifles wear a pre-fit deccelerator. Best money you can spend in my opinion.

I prefer the Limbsavers to the Decelerators I use them on my 444p, 45/70(which also has a mercury recoil reducer), my35ltdss, and my 1894 41ltdss.  They were easy enough to install using a BSquare jig bought from Brownells. Just follow the instructions, go slow and you can do it.  Around here they get about $100-120 to install, so if you have other rifles that need one the cost of the jig is well worth it.

I put a Pachmyer Decelerator pad on my M700 338 RUM. Went from being sore for days firing 15 roounds to 20-25 rounds from bench, sitting and prone with no ill effects. It made that much difference!

I have a Decellerator on one 1895 and a Limbsaver on the other 1895; both in 45/70.

There is mucho difference between the two.  The Limbsaver wins hands down for recoil reduction.

I also use a slip on Limbsaver on my Trapdoor for competition, and it allows me to shoot 100 rounds a day  through that rifle without worrying about fatigue or pain.  They work.  Period.

The only big (physical) difference is in the thickness of the two pads.  The Limbsaver will add a bit to your stock length, so if you are sensitive to the length of your stock, then shortening is called for when using the Limbsaver.
