What do want to with it and what do you want it to do? There are many variables to consider. Do you relaod or will you be buying ammo? The 30-06 is a great all around caliber but without knowing your needs and desires it's a difficult question. The 45-70, .280, .357 Mag, and the 30-30 immediately spring to mind, but those are some of my likes and you may not have any use for them....<><....

I will be using it for deer hunting. when i bought my 243 i thought it would work for varmints and deer but now i have my doughts. really i guess im looking for a brush gun i think the 243 will be ok in the open. but since i havent shot it yet i really cant say. i have seen 450 marlin, 30/30, 45/70 acc barrels on the acc barrel page but are all of  them drilled and tapped?

If you choose one of these, the 30-30 would be the one for me, and you don't want the open sights just include a note with your order asking them to install the scope rail and leave off the open sights and you'll get the barrel for the same price that way. Otherwise, you would have to pay extra for the scope rail later. The open sights I received with my 357 barrel recently weren't anywhere near the quality of the older ones I used to get with an accesssory barrel. I'll be going with scope rails in place of their cheap open sights from now on.
