need help on Bushnell SportsView 4-12x40
« on: February 12, 2006, 05:34:19 PM »
I found this scope at some shop, it was used, dusty and the owner of the shop just wanted to get ride of it, anyways, he sold it to me for 40 bucks, from what I can tell it is very old, it DOES have a range finder (which is kinda cool i think), and it was never used.

What do you guys think of this scope ? is it well build ? is the "range finder" really work ? or did I jump into a bad purchase......my 2nd line of question is, how do you use the range finder, I have never used one before

thanks

Probably about 20 years ago my dad presented me with my first rifle.  We went to the local gunshop and picked up a Bushnell Sportview 3-9X38mm scope.  Cost was about $40 to $50 if I remember correctly.

The rifle was a .308 Win. and put a hurting on the scope.  Twice we sent it back to Bushnell for repairs.  Both times it seemed as though a lense became dislodged inside.  The factory replaced the scope both times, which was good, but I haven't shot the gun much since then to give a valid report on the third try.

The Sportview line was Bushnell's entry level scope for that time.  I'd think that sitting atop a rimfire it would do you just fine.  Anything bigger than a .243 may be too much for it to handle for any length of time.  Or, you may have one heckuva scope and it will last you forever on a 45/70.  One never knows.
