remington 521T front sight
« on: February 10, 2006, 03:33:44 PM »
i just purchased a rem. 521T with a lyman 57RS rear peep sight and is missing a front sight.i know that they came with a post or a lyman 17A. i will probably go back with the 17A-but which height do i get?on another board-some say the .404" and some say the .494". i don't want to mess up and order the wrong sight.   ???????????????????????????????????
thanks,dennis

Calculate the height of the receiver sight(dully lowered) from the center of the action and the distance from the bottom of the front sight dovetail to the center of the bore. The distance will be the height of front sight needed.. at least it'll be close. You'l need a calipher and a calculator to accomplish the task.  Good luck..

Measuring is the only problem. A cheap calipher will work. It''s simple..1/2 the diameter of the action plus the total height of the rear sight above the receiver top minus 1/2 the diameter of the sight aperture equals center of rear sight to center of bore.  Front dimension is- muzzle diameter divided by 2 minus the depth of the dovetail for the front sight. Subtract this from the amount from the first calculation. The result will be the total hieght needed for the front sight..
