We need to talk about this because you mentioned it a while back about shooting corrosive ammo and how long does it take to ruin a barrel? I shot my Hakim with corrosive yugo 8mm surplus ammo and let it sit for over a year in the safe until today I forgot all about it. I remember i had one more to clean but with my mind on other things I forgot all this time to do it. I had a sudden flash back while in the safe and took out my bore lite and checked everything. My barrel in my hakim didn't look too good. I wasn't worried I have an extra barreled action but i'm not giving it up that easy. I broke out my G.I. Rifle Bore Cleaner and patches/cleaning rod and went to work scrubbing the bore three times then wiping it out before taking a peek inside. Kevin I have the prettiest looking bore again with no pit marks at all nothing its bright and shiney. So your right whats all the hub'bub about shooting corrosive ammo? Maybe it could be the climate where the gun is stored too if its more moist it would enhance and help the corrosion process maybe? My safe area is very dry and heated it could be what saved me i'm not so sure yet. Then why do the bad barrels look so bad and what caused it. What causes the sewer pipe barrels that i have seen. Could it be shooting the gun over and over without ever cleaning the barrel using corrosive ammo? This sure breaks the theory about cleaning our barrels at the gun range right away don't it.
I have never had a corroded barrel yet nor lost a barrel to corrosion so what really causes this some act like it can happen on the drive home from the range come on now we know it can't happen so fast i just proved it.
My memory is going i may have to keep a log on gun cleaning now.
