Is the 9mm worth it???
« on: February 06, 2006, 06:03:48 AM »
Currently, I cast for my .41 and .44 revolvers.  Now I am thinking of buying a gang mold for my 9mms.  I ussually buy my 9mm bullets (berries or raineers) from Midway. So here is my question:

Is it worth the effort and time to cast for the 9mm?  Is the 9mm any more difficult to cast for, i.e. mold fill out, dropping out of a six cavity mold, etc?

Ussually,  my casting is done under my padio in winter months with temps ranging  5-32 degs above.  I do not know if this has any bearing or not.

I would be interested in any comments.  Thanks..........Balto

I have a 9mm revolver, casting for it is my next project.

I used to cast for my Mac 11-9mm too.

It's about the only way you'll be able to get semi-wad cutter in 9mm.

The main thing is to make sure the bullets are going to be big enough. Most 9mm's I have slugged need .357-.358 diameter bullets. The .366 "standard" ones will lead and be inaccurate. Measure first before buying a mould.

I have a used 9mm 120 gr tc mold. I ahve cast some bullets with it but not loaded any. I would be willing to trade it for an other mold. maybe a heavy 45 caliber.

rickyp,
how many cavity mould? what make? I have an RCBS round nose, but I can't get the bullets to feed well in anything. I also have various .452 (45 ACP) moulds. are you looking for an ACP or Long Colt mould?
