I need accurate information about this Zeiss?? binocular
« on: February 19, 2006, 09:55:23 AM »
I own two Zeiss 8 x 30 B/GA IF binoculars that incorporate the F2 rangefinder -- wonderfully useful steam tractors. On eBay is an auction for 10 x 40 B/GA IF Iranian binocular that strongly resembles mine.

I queried the seller. He has no information other than he obtained them in Israel. He does not know if they are Zeiss-Wetzlar contract, or made in Iran in a factory built by/for Zeiss, or whether optical glass and prisms are Schott. He knows bupkes!

Can anyone furnish accurate information? Speculation is not useful. If these are Zeiss, I'll buy them, or find another binocular.

fe352v8:

Many thanks for your help. Zeiss Historica could not help. I went to IOI's web site. While I obtained little useful, I queried their export division.***********query letter follows************
Dear Sirs:

I have examined a binocular that closely resembles my Zeiss 8 x 30 B/GA IF Olive with F2 reticle. However, it is not Zeiss brand. Attached are six graphics of the binocular.

1. Are the graphics of one of your binoculars -- BDS-101, BDS-102, BDS-110 with compass, or 15x56? If yes,

2. Please send graphics and purchase prices (single-user purchases) of the four binoculars mentioned in #1.

3. Are these binoculars made under license from Zeiss-Wetzlar? Or from what used to be Carl Zeiss-Jena? If yes to either in #3,

4. Was manufacturing facility built with co-operation of either Zeiss company? Does Zeiss-Wetzlar continue to furnish support?

5. Please identify details of manufacture, including: manufacturer of optical glass and prisms; binoculars' body material; lens coatings; et.al.

6. Identify warranty for retail purchasers.

7. Where can I obtain warranty repair, factory authorized service, user-replaceable parts?

8. Do Zeiss eye cups fit where appropriate? Do you have available snow filters? If not, do Zeiss snow filters fit?***********end query letter*********
When -- IF -- I receive a reply, I'll keep you posted.
