This is getting ridiculous, a topic from a Handi-Holic...
« on: February 01, 2006, 06:30:48 AM »
Well, here we go.  Over the past winter I've collected some Handi "parts".  They include an Ultra receiver, choate varmint stock for it, 22 Hornet barrel, Trotter's 17 Remington barrel, a 44 mag Handi, then some checkered Lams for that, picked up a survivor stock for my 17 HMR that I don't like, and I think that's about it.  Just got my reloading supplies for the 44 mag, 22 Hornet, and 17 Rem.  Some scopes are on the way also.  Here's the plan, I'm going to have my "hunting rig" which includes my first receiver with the 270, BC 45-70, 50 muzzleloader and a "varmint rig" which will be my ultra receiver/varmint stock combo with the 17 Rem, and 22 Hornet.  I'm probably going to put my 243 barrel with my varmint rig also.  This is getting ridiculous, time to make some cartridges and get to the range, but not until I get everything fitted just right.  The 17 Rem needs some fitting on the Ultra frame, otherwise everything is in good shape.  Wish me luck!

:toast: Sounds like the workings of a great collection. It's just so easy to swap parts for these guns, and makes it easy to mix and match....I love it :)

Well, I've got a bunch of my work done.  Did my trigger job on the Ultra frame, fitted the 17 remington barrel, scoped up the 44 mag, hornet, and 17.  I've loaded up my 200 and 300 grainers for the 44 mag, 35 grain v-max for the hornet and have yet to load up some 20 grain v-max 17's, maybe this weekend....  since the temp dropped 50 degrees in the last 3 days...

Hello from Georgia,
This sounds like a very versitile combo, but may I suggest just two additions. I think the group would be totally complete when you had available a .410 full choke for rabbits and squirrels and how about a 12 ga. 3 1/2" screw in choke barrel for turkeys and other birds. Possibly a rifled slug barrel for those places that do not allow rifles for deer, although you already mentioned a .50 cal. muzzleloader.

I can fully understand the symptoms on Handiholicism for I have the same ones myself. It sounds to me like you are well on the way to having a complete hunting arsenal that would be appropriate to go anywhere on the continent and hunt. Good Luck !!!
