Any thoughts on these scopes? Looking at the 3-9X40.

Great scope for the money. I would compare it to the Leupold VX-II's but $85.00 cheaper.

Nikon scopes used to have just one line - Nikon. Then, Nikon came out with the Monarch UCCs and Buckmasters. The original Nikons (of which I own a few) are wonderful - clear, bright, and sharp, not to mention EXCELLENT tracking. Their light transmission was 88%.

What Nikon did was come out with the Monarch that has 95% light transmission (like the Elite 4200s). In any event, Nikon essentially used the glass that was in the original line and called it their "Buckmaster" line. Granted, the Buckmaster scope looks a bit different than the original Nikon line, but the glass is the same. However, I am not certain whether the scope integrity of the original line - which was passed to the Monarch line, was also passed to the Buckmaster line.

I asked a co-worker how he liked his. He said he really likes his and is glad he bought it. He's only used it one season. If you can swing another $50 -$60, you can get a Monarch UCC Nikon scope. They are a great buy. I bought on for my son for Christmas and he loves it. Dollar for dollar I'd rate the Nikon Monarch UCC scopes as a best buy. IMHO they're like getiing a Vari-x III for $150 less.

I had my heart set on a Leupold for my varmint rifle. The guy at the optics dept at Sheels had me do a side by side with a Nikon Buckmaster of comparable power range and price. I was amazed! The Nikon sucked in a very obvious amount of more light with very clear resolution and sharp contrast and detail. Needless to say, I bought it on the spot.

Hi i have 4 Nikon scopes i have one on my 300 wby 4.5x14x40mm and i have a 4.5x14x40mm on my Rem 22 250 and i have a 3x9x 40mm on my Rem 50 cal muzzle loader all buckmasters i think for the price and warr. they r at the top of scopes clear stay on zero good i had a Leupold v x 2 3x9x50mm on my 300 wby sold it and got a Nikon and never look back and i am going get a Nikon Monarch 1.5x4.5x20mm TurkeyPro Reticle in a day or 2 for the up coming turkey season and i have a pair of Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42 Binoculars i love them Nikon makes the greatest stuff for the money

Guess I'd better throw my hat into the ring and talk about my Nikons. I too must admit that I am very pleased with my two Buckmasters (3-9X and 4.5-14X). I also think that for the money, they are hard to beat. Granted, you'll have to pry my Leupold's from my cold, dead, fingers but I'm not at all second-guessing my Nikon purchases. My only complaint on both of them is that the darned power adjustment ring is VERY tough to adjust. If I want to adjust to a higher power, I cannot do it while looking through the scope as I have to reposition the rifle to get leverage. Very discouraging when I wanna zoom in on that coyote at around 2-300 yards.

I have that same problem on one of my Nikon Monarchs, but my other Nikons are fine. I wonder why?
