No, the Savage bolts will not fit directly on any other action and function.  Actually, switch-barrel rifles are more common than many think and pre-date the Savage M110.  Smiths have been making them on Remington and other actions for many years.  They do not use the oddball Savage barrel nut, but rather just set the barrel in with a much lower torque than the factory does, so that a small action/barrel wrench combo can loosen or tighten the barrel.  The shooter has these parts so he can change the barrel at any time.

Actions like the Remington with a separate recoil lug either have the lug welded to the action, or pinned to it.  Many highly accurate benchrest and varmint rifles are so made.

Some takedowns use locks in the forestock and the barrel fitted to the forearm. This creates a rifle that can be taken down and packed in aa short case. It can easily be returned to action by simply screwing the barrel/forestock combo onto the action. and locking the latch, holding the two in alignment.. The simplest takedowns are the rifle barrels for the carious break action rifle such as the NEF single shots.. and usually quite accurate too..

Thanks for your info. I did read somewhere that there are some guys using barrel nuts for the Remington actions applying similar concept to savage rifle and the Remington bolt was modified to accept savage bolt head. Is it possible. Thanks. Eddie.

I suppose the barrel nut could be done but why? Just buy the Savage and use the money you save to buy a beautiful wood stock.. That way you'd also get the accutrigger as an aded benefit.
