Pistol or Rifle ML?
« on: February 21, 2006, 06:16:57 AM »
I'm just got my encore 270 pistol the other day now I'm wanting to get a muzzleloader barrle I just dont know if I should get a pistol or rifle barrle.  I have read a few post about the pistol ml some say its just fine for deer out to 100yards and others say they dont have enough speed for deer past 50yrds. If I get the rifle barrle it gives me a reason to buy a stock and forend (lol) The other qustion I have is the 209x45 any better the the 209x50 or vice virsa?

I have both a 15 inch 209x50 and 26" 209x45.
I have yet to take a deer with the 45 barrel but I ahve taken several this year with the 15" 50.
Most of my shots are less then 50 yards and a 100 yard shot is a long way for me.

The real thing to consider when hunting with the 15 inch barrel is bullet desing. most bullets are desinged work at faster speeds then you can get from the 15" barrel. What you need to look for is a bullet made for handgun hunting and you shold be ok. THe past year I used lightfield alpha gold 300. it is made from pure lead and worked well.

What I think you shold do is buy both a 15 inch and 26 inch 209x50 barrel
