I went to Walmart to get some White box 223 ammo and they have two, full metal jacket and hollow point which are you guys getting the best accuracy out of in a 223 heavy barrel Handi?

The 45gr JHP is the most popular, but some like the 55gr FMJ, too. I've only shot the JHP, it shoots so good there's no reason to try the FMJ. Even if the FMJ shot good, what fun would it be on varmints!!

The white box JHP is great ammo. I can consistantly get .5" groups with my Contender.

I shot a lot of both, and of course the 45gr JHPs are the most accurate in my Handi. Strange thing is my Handi use to absolutely HATE the 55gr FMJs, but after breaking in my barrel with several hundred rounds, it shoots them at or under 1". Perhaps they are seated a little longer I don't know. That would be interesting to know though, I just don't have any to measure.

If there is a  Meijer stores in your area, you might check their price. I buy my 45gr JHP box of 40 for 13.00 a 1.50 cheaper than WAL-MARTwhere I live .

What are they costing you guys in your area?

I have always had pretty good luck with the 45gr HP's, as they have been fairly accurate in just about all my .223 rifles.  Here is some chrono results I recently got with the ammo out of my 16" and 18" AR15's:

16" Barrel
Winchester White Box 45gr HP     3267  3182  3244  3079  3100
Avg:  3174      SD:  83.8

18" barrel

Winchester White Box 45gr HP     3252  3228  3197  3212  3252  3392  3401  3292
Avg:  3278      SD:  78

I have chrono'd the load in 22" barrels, and have yet to get anywhere close to the printed velocity of 3600fps on the box!
