For me it's almost a toss-up between birds and squirells, but I guess that it's probably more birds.

Although we use our air rifles to keep pests under control we do spend a lot of time hunting little brush rabbits.  A real big one will weight maybe 4 to 5 pounds live.  Great eating and great sport trying to get within range for a shot.  They are usually found very close to cover or a hole so this makes head shots a must as even a body hit with my .20 Beeman Crow Magnum IV does not always anchor them.  Do some squirrel hunting during season but rabbits are the best.  Lawdog

I'm considering getting an air rifle for hunting and reports like Lawdog's are a help to me.  I wonder what pellet you're using Lawdog? What are common distances.

For now my hunting is limited to an occasional pest squirrel at 5- 10 yds.  I have used a .177 cal chinese rifle that shot Crossman copperheads at about 750 fps. Sold this rifle and now just have a Beeman R7 that is a bit light for hunting.

My ultimate quarry will be ptarmigan and spruce hens (grouse) at 10 to 20 yards.

Dand,

We use two types of pellets for all of our hunting.  For large birds, crows and such, we use wad cutter type target pellets.  I don't like a crow flying off after a body hit and the flat nose wad cutter pellets seem to have more shocking power than other types of pellets.  For brush bunnies, squirrels and everything else we use the Beeman Crow Magnum hollow point pellets.  They really open up and do massive internal damage.

You want to make sure that shooting small game is legal in your state before going hunting.  Rules and laws differ from state to state.  I California you can hunt wild turkeys with an air rifle but it must be at least .20 caliber or larger.  I took a nice young tom last fall with my Beeman Crow Magnum IV in .20 caliber using Crow Magnum pellets with a body hit at 50 plus yards and he didn't go over ten feet after being hit.  He made a nice addition to Christmas dinner.  Lawdog

I HUNT WOMEN THE MOST!!!!!!

Jokes aside,
Vermin is the most popular Air Gun
target for me. As far as I know, game animals
are not legal to hunt in Georgia with air rifles.
 Opossum in the garbage cans
are starting to get tempting though!!!
