Author Topic: Picking up a new CZ 75 on Saturday - advice on caliber (Read 1006 times)

I will be picking up a new CZ 75 on Staurday at the gunshow but I'm hung on what caliber to get. I'm, trying to decide between a 9mm, 40cal or 45 cal. I have fired a 9mm and a 45 but have never fired the 40 cal so I don't know what to expect there. Is the 40 a lot louder than the 9mm or 45? According to Chuck Hawk, he shows that the recoil of the 40 is about 3 pounds higher than that of the 45 so is the 40 gonna be a pain to shoot all day for a 5'9" average built guy? I will be using this as a carry gun and home protection. SO, will I be happy shooting a small framed 40cal or should I jump down to the 9mm? I

Can't speak to the CZ, but I have all three in other handguns. My experience with .40 has been Glock 27, Taurus PT-140, and Ruger P-94. I still have the Ruger. I am not particularly recoil sensitive, but have never thought the .40 was punishing. Probably shot the Glock as good as anything else I have and I am 5'-8", 150#. I'm down to the Ruger in .40 now just because I like shooting the 9mm and .45 better. Recoil, to me, is considerably more than the 9, and a little more than the .45. My .45's are 1911 steel frame so recoil is not bad. I don't think the recoil would bother you, but I don't see where the .40 has that much more going for it than the other two. Just my opinion, and that is all it is. I like them all. :grin:

If this is a first pistol, the 9 or the .45 are both good choices. As you have indicated that you might shoot "all day" the 9 gets the nod. Easy recoiling, inexpensive ammo, adequate for home defense with good ammo. The .45 is my favorite. Love to shoot the .45. Just like to see those big holes in the target! I reload, so I can shoot the .45 as cheap as the 9. Personally I fail to see any advantage to choosing the .40 over the 9 or .45.

40 is a 10mm lite. It also is a compromise between the 9mm and the 45. It makes a bigger hole but still fits into a 9mm framed handgun.

What did you do?
When I am in doubt I tend to get more than one. Father in law once told me to invest in the three G's. Ground, Gold & Guns. Never get hurt to bad on any of them.

Well, I went up planning on buying a CZ 75 compact but fell in love with this little guy. It's a CZ 2075 RAMI in 9mm which is based off of the 75 line of firearms. I got to shoot about 75 rounds before it got dark on me and all I can say is WOW - this thing is a real shooter and very comfortable to hold and shoot. I have a CZ75B in the .40 S&W. It is a great shooter. I do hand load and have alot of fun shooting my CZ75B. Buy the CZ in the .40 S&W. You will NOT be disappointed.

I was planning on getting the 2075 in 40 but several people on the CZ websites forum said the 2075 was very unpleasant to shoot in the 40 cal. I plan to get a 75 model and will most likely get the 40 or maybe the 45 or how about both :-D

Well I ordered a CZ 75b in 9mm today and it's suppose to be here on Tuesday - It's gonna be a long weekend. On a good note though, when I ordered the 75 today I also picked up 200 rounds of Winchester white box so it's gonna be a fun day tomorrow shooting my 2075 RAMI.

I have the Glock 22 in 40 caliber Also have the Glock 20 in 10mm. I just guess I like Glock. My 9mm is a P89. My 45ACP is Springfield.

I have a two tone finish CZ-75 in 9 MM, my favorite pistol in my collection. 3 years ago I bought a high polished CZ-75 in .40 S/W. Both guns are accurate and reliable, I am impressed with the CZ quality without breaking the bank.

But, of the two the 9 MM is hands down my preferred gun. It shoots cheaper ammo, less recoil, better accuracy. While I am happy with the 10 round clips that came with it, the option of a 15 rounder is there. If I was a police officer I might stick with the .40, I think it might be better in the knock down area, bigger hole.

Glad you like your new CZ,, I have the Baby Eagle compact 40 s&w and am really getting to like it. I can shoot that thing all day and recoil is not a problem at all.. But then again I also have a 45/70 bfr.. that is just plain fun to shoot. I highly recomend it. I love shooting as fast as I can and still stay on target. lots of fun.. getting pretty good at it.. My Springfield Armory XD 40 tactical is just as much fun.. a much bigger pistol though. I have a couple friends that would not even consider the cz or the xd because they are not made in the USA. There loss.. The CZ75 is the 1911 of the eastern block.
I cant waite till the weather gets warmer so I can put a thousand or so rounds thru her.. It is an obsession.
