Does 300 H&H need a 26" bbl???
« on: February 26, 2006, 12:51:18 PM »
I have read that the 300 H&H does not require the 26" bbl that the other 300 mags do because it has less powder / is more efficient.  Is this true?

Is a 25" or even a 24" giving anything up in this round?

Thanks.

Benny,
I suspect you might lose 20 to 30 fps for each inch. My choice would be the 26" barell.

I agree with Killdeer.

Expect to lose at LEAST 30 fps per inch of barrel shorter than 26-inches.  Tests have shown an average velocity loss as high as 50 fps per inch of barrel loss... it varies with rifle and caliber.

I had a Colt Coltsman rebarreled 300H&H with a 26" barrel it felt like shooting a fishing pole, I took it back and had it cut to 24" and recrowned now it FEELS right.
Its a super caliber!!!
