Has anyone replaced the fireing pin spring in the P89. I can't get the Decocking lever out to get to the fireing pin spring. Maybe theres a trick to I don't know. Can any one help?

I'm not real familiar with this pistol but seem to remember that the rear sight has to come off to allow complete disassembly. But we're working from my memory here and that's a shaky foundation at best. I've included a link to a parts blow up..

gunnut69 The first thing I did was take off the sight and under it is a piece that fits down into a hole for it but that doesn't interfear with the decockers coming out. They just won't exit. Thanks for link.

Just guessing here but try pushing the firing pin forward while pulling the decocker lever out. You may also have to locate the point ing the decockers arc that will allow the release of the opposing side.. The firing pin spring/firing pin may be the mechanical retainer for the decocker.

Gunnut, That is a heck of a guess. I learning to be a gunsmith, so I have been watching these post. I'm thinking there is a whole lot of knowledge behind that "guess". I love this place. :agree:

I got the fireing pin spring out. I took my rear sight off and that fireing pin block out also. Then I had to take the extractor out then under where the extractor goes there is a decocker lever spring retainer that you have to get out NOT EASY. Then turn the slide up side down take that spring that the retainer was holding in place out NOT EASY. Now the Decockers will both come out and the fire pin will come out. Some pieces come apart as you go along, right decocker.

Oh by the way there is NO certain way the decocker have to point once the parts are removed it falls out.

I have fooled with guns of many kinds for over 40 years, but it was still a guess. Without the gun in hand most of these posts are guesses. Gunsmithing is more a learned behavior than anything else. Observe, and explore.. Parts diagrams help but don't show all the parts sometimes.. Glad you got the slide diassembled,,

Do you do apprenticeships? I'm pretty handy around the house. I can work on vehicles, repair home problems, and not too bad of a guy. I just need to learn about guns. I could bring all of mine and we could tear all of them apart and throw them in a pile and I could practice putting them back together. Maybe some of yours too. With a little guidance, of course. Oh yeah, I have a wife, 2 kids (girls 2 and 4), 2 dogs, and a cat. I hope you have lots of room. Let me know.

HeavyHaul!! I've been chased with a knife, shot at, shot, hit, beat, fired, bored, and other things too terrible to mention but you've really got me scared!! My kids are just leaving the nest,,(1 gone, 2nd in college). I've been thinking about changin the locks and having my very own room to use as a study!! Truthfully though, gunsmithing is mostly common sense and a bit of thoughtfullness and a large amount of reading.. Some things like carving and checkering and such require a modicum of skill but that can in most instances be learned. And of course I'll always be here for you..

I guess that it's a no-go then. I'm sure that if you are willing, you will be hearing from me. I don't think that I can convince my wife that I need to buy another 8-10 guns to take a part and learn. So, if I can't come ot to your place, I guess it is back to the drawing board. :? :-D

I took a gunsmithing course a while back to help me work on my many guns. Sometimes I need a little push to get going. I've been messing around with and shooting guns for 44 years and still don't know everything.
