I have been reading several postings and would like some opinions. I bought a Ultra-Vermint in 223. I would like to get a .204 barrel for it. I have read were several people have had problems with fitting. I this problem still going on with NEF or is it safe to have them mate a barrel to my receiver. Any feedback greatly appreciated. :-)

FWIW,
I just got a 25-06 back from Gardiner I sent them for a loose lockup with alignment issues--the rifle shot loose after less than 200 rounds of factory ammo. It came back locking up nice and tight and shooting nicely.

One thing about NEF's customer service--it's the best I've dealt with.

I have an idea that there may have been a batch of soft, for whatever reason, underlugs that were put on guns and shipped out. When I asked what had been done to my rifle, before I'd gotten it back, the woman at CS said it had been "muzzled and targeted". They most certainly must have done more than that; I think the underlug was removed and another one welded on to correct all three issues--the alignment, the lockup, and the fact it had shot loose. I have no facts to substiantiate this idea but the theory definately fits my observations...

In the unlikely event that your newly-fitted barrels do not lock up properly, you can be sure that they will "make it right" for you.

Accessory barrel prices are listed on their web site, be sure to include the $15 fitting and $10 return shipping in your spending total...

Have a look at this website for info & prices for accessory barrels. I don't see a .204 on the list, so you'll have to call the factory anywyay!

The .204 Ruger 22" bull accessory barrel is #R03298, $93.

The rifle is also not listed on on the Walmart list, either..... Bluebayou?

Thanks for reminding me, Kerry!! It sure will be nice when they update that list, that barrel has been available since late 2004!!

Put your fears aside....the good folks at the customer service department will bend over backwards to help in anyway they can to correct any problems you may come up with.

I just sent off for a new 25-06 extractor barrel..and a few other items as well. Anytime you send a barrel in..you need to have a detailed letter inside the box with the barrel to them there explaining exactly what you want done..this way there isn't any mix up..

NEF has 2 full time smiths..and 1 part time person helping with all the barrel fitting and trigger jobs and returns..so..to say they are busy would be a understatement..On every barrel I have ever sent in..I have always sent along a letter to the gunsmiths and to the C/S staff ..this way I know they have recieved my request..The 2 full time smiths are Jon & Brian..and they have always done exceptional for me on every request I have sent in.. the trigger jobs they have done for me have been exceptional..and the barrels have locked up tighter than a drum. :agree:

Does the bull barrel cause a problem with fitting the standard wood forearm? I'd like to get a .204 barrel also. :grin:
