NRA Sues Mayor Ray Nagin

Fairfax, VA-The National Rifle Association (NRA ) has filed a motion for contempt against the City of New Orleans, the mayor and the acting chief of police for failure to comply with a temporary restraining order, handed down September 12, 2005, ordering an end to all illegal gun confiscations.

"With looters, rapists and other thugs running rampant in New Orleans, Ray Nagin issued an order to disarm all law-abiding citizens," declared Wayne LaPierre, NRA executive vice president. "With no law enforcement and 911 available, he left the victims vulnerable by stripping away their only means of defending themselves and their loved ones. Now Ray Nagin thinks he's above the law, and that's just wrong."

Attorneys for NRA have exhausted all efforts to cooperate with the defendants, Mayor Nagin and Chief Riley, who repeatedly ignored the court's permanent restraining order against their illegal gun confiscations.

"Ray Nagin is a colossal disappointment," said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. "During a federally declared emergency, he abused his power and abandoned the very people he was sworn to protect. He took away the victims' freedom and their basic means of self-defense during an ill-fated and perilous time."

The motion also includes an order that all seized firearms must be returned to their rightful owners.

it always seems that in an emergency or crisis situation a persons true colors come out. Mayor Nagin and Chief Riley were wrong. they not only should return the guns but also owe the citizens an apology. the voters should also remember their actions come election day. add 2 more to the anti-gun crowd it would seem.

Though i think your choice of post titles is a little out of line , i do agree that they both have overstepped their bounds and have done a great disservice to the very people that gave them their jobs and come voting time the people of New Orleans need to let them know that this kind of action will NOT be put up with .

It would be a cold day in hell that i would give up my best means to defend my family under the most of extream of cercomstances . if it ment becoming an outlaw to keep my family safe , just call me Jeseeeee James

Stimpy I do not consider it out of line at all if any one considers it racist consider the fact that old Ray Ray is the one that came up with the Term Chocolate City not me. Any derogatory remarks on the subject of chocolate and himself he earned with his stupidity not his color or his race. That was his choosing of the chocolate reference not mine so if the shoe fits?

Hey Stimpy nothing to be sorry about on my account. If you saw it that way first no big deal as far as I am concerned. We all see things differently at times.  :D  Jim

The next time I view this thread I expect it to have a NEW subject line. You know better than that.

OK GB as you wish. I did not see that as a big deal Nagan came up with the slogan I did not, so he says it and its ok but if a white man says it it is racist? Guess I do not get it but I am more than happy to change the thead title.

This too has perplexed me for years , if someone of a certin race says something about the same race it is just fine , but if someone of a diffrent race says the same thing it is racist .

The people of the United States and the world for that matter find it wrong to have a miss white america , yet it is perfictly ok to have a miss black america . B.E.T. ( black ent. television ) on tv is socialy exceptable but when someone tried to start W.E.T. ( white ent. television ) they were labled as racist .

When someone can understand this will they please let me know .  :?

And again , if i judged to quickly , i am sorry .

To be honest I didn't know he called himself that.    You see he isn't even on my radar, I listen to nothing he says and read nothing he says. In my world he doesn't exist, but we do have rules regarding name calling and it should apply even to people for whom we have nothing but contempt and for sure he fits into that category for me. It's more a matter of respect for our readers than for folks like him as I for sure have no respect for him.

Hiring practises and minority quotas are the big double standards that really get me hot.

If Hardies refused to hire a minority for any reason at all, doesn't matter that they can't even speak or read English, his/her attorney and the ACLU would be all over it like white on rice suing Hardies for 'racism', 'hate crimes', 'pain and suffering', 'emotional trauma' you name it with Al Sharpton and company leading the charge.  Now if a white kid were to walk into most any Chinese or Mexican  restaurant in this country the ink on his job app' would not even be dry before it went into the garbage. But you don't hear Al Sharpton or the ACLU screaming about that do you?

Brett

I totally agree with you and another thing that tends to get me pixxed is when people start this Afro-american ,Mexican-american , Japanese-american garbage . My great great grandparents came from Germany but if i call myself German-american then i am a racest or a skinhead .

Well guess what , i am an american , no more no less and everytime i hear this junk i get madder and madder , if these people want to be afro , japanese , mexican well then by all means go to whatever country you will and be happy .

If not be an AMERICAN and LEARN to SPEAK ENGLISH as TRUE AMERICANS DO !!!

Sorry if i got off subject and into a rant but it is how i feel .

You got that right Stimpy.  Booth sets of my grandparents came over on the boat from Europe. They were proud as heck the day they passed the citizenship test and were able to call themselves "Americans" period.   Furthermore they made it a point to learn to speak, read and write the  English language.  They may have spoken Swedish or Polish at home but when they were out in public they spoke English.  Most of today's crop of immigrants want all the benefits of American citizenship without making any sacrifices on their part.

If you listen to Nagin speak for any length of time it becomes blatantly obvious that he is nothing more than a racist himself.

I find it VERY difficult to listen to him for any length of time longer than a nanno.
NO has brought much of this on itownself by its choices over the years and this is not limited to voting records.

Racisim by any person, even aimed at their own race, in inappropriate.  I agree with GB that it has no place here.

Sticking our heads in the sand and pretending it didn't happen is why were are where are today. The man made a speach on National TV at a press confrence and said NO would be a Chocolate City. I watched the words come out of the mans mouth, plain and simple. Why must we pretend it is "inappropriate" when the man who said it doesn't feel it is inapproiate?

It has nothing to do with "standards". I'm always amazed how "racism" is the issue. The man made the comment in reference to himself and the black people of NO. Just who determines that it is racial? If he is not offended by it why should anyone else be, when the comment is directed to him?

One of my best friends is Irish, he has gone by the name "Mick" as long as I have known him. And I have another friend that is Italian that has gone by "Daego" as long as I have known him. Is that racism, when they are not offended and introduce themselves that way?

Now I know other folks who would not like to be addressed that way, and I would never think of addressing them that way. But when a man addresses himself as so and so and  takes no offense I don't believe it is my part to take offense for him.

Just another example. From Bill's picture I take it he goes by the name "Grey Beard" because of his grey beard. He goes by that name and is addressed by that name. Should we be offended that he goes by the name Grey Beard? If he isn't offended, than I'm not. Some other folks might take offense to being called "Grey Beard." My point is this. If a man calls himself something, it is not my right or position to say he can't be called that.

Look it's quite simple. GBO has RULES every member agrees to abide by and they will if they wish to stay here. One of them is NO NAME CALLING. I don't care what he calls himself and really don't care what you call him. I'm sure my opinion of him is no higher than yours. BUT I do care what is posted at GBO and I do care if GBO rules are violated. It's just that simple. It has nothing to do with racism or for that matter Ray Nagin. It has to do with following the rules I've set up for this site to operate under.

Thanks for clearing that up and not making it into something that it wasn't. People are way to quick to point fingers and cry racism, when it was not the case and was not ment to be. Can we still call you Grey Beard?
