Sierra devotes a section of their latest reloading manual to the .25-06 AI.
While the loads listed there are somewhat tame, it is always better to err on the side of caution, especially where lawyers lurk.
I started with a 57.0 gr. load of Alliant Reloder 19, Federal 210 Match primers, fire-formed Winchester brass and Barnes 100 grain XLC (blue-coated bullets). I loaded cases in 0.5 grain increments until high pressure signs appeared (flat primers), then backed-off 1 grain, then went to work on developing accuaracy.
Barnes X bullets depend on seating depth to achieve optimum accuracy. I started by seating the bullets 0.030 in. from contact with the rifling on three loaded cases, followed by loading 3 cases with the bullets seated 0.035 in. from the rifling, then 3 at 0.040, 3 at 0.045 and 3 at 0.50.
My rifle performed best (1.25" 3-shot group at 200 meters) with the bullets seated 0.040 in. from contact with the rifling.
I hope you find this information useful.
