Rings and bases for rimfire silhouette rifles.

Could someone tell me what good rings and bases would be for an Anschutz 1712fwt hunter class rifle with a B&L 6-24x40 scope; more specifically, I understand that the scope can't be more than 1.5" above the top of the receiver to be legal for hunter class, so I'd like to know some good combinations to achieve this height and that would bring the rifle in right at the weight limit.  I don't have one of these setups yet, but I hope to some day soon.  Thanks, Paul.

The best out there are made by Marvin Pearson in Chehalis, WA.  He goes by Metalhead on this and the www.steelchickens.com forum. They are not the cheapest, but they are the best for the serious silhouette shooter.

Other options, I really like are the Burris Signature Zee rings (plastic inserts),  they are really gentle on the scope and can also help you to gain elevation.

I think I have seen almost all setups on the firing line from simple weaver rings and bases to the elaborate customed machined rigs.  I guess the best thing to do, is to determine what height you want your scope above the action (within the given class you are shooting height limits) and then build your setup from there.

You also should look at BKL products... notably their #257 rings...  Very strong and secure and very light compared to all others I've tried.  They are one of the advertisers here so should be easy to find.

G'Day Paul
               I have a 1712fwt with a 6.5-20 Leupold, it is in a set of Sportsmatch rings and it comes in under the IMMSU weight for "hunting". It weighs just under 3.5 kg. These are good mounts and are used by a lot of Australian Shooters.

Go to the BKL website and take a look at their ringss.  The #257 rings and the BKL riser will get you just under the legal 1.5 inch limit.  They are lightweight, very secure and I have never marred a scope finish with them.  You can pay more for a set of rings but I doubt that you will find a lighter weight or better ring for the money than the BKL.
