Contender rifle stock
« on: March 11, 2006, 01:53:23 PM »
At the gun show today I saw a contender rifle 22 Hornet, with amazing wood. It was not custom. Odd thing was that the cap on the grip was metal with T/C nameplate. The grip area was also checkered. I haven't seen this before. The vendor was asking $550. Can anyone give me more info on this stock?

That sounds like the original carbine stock from the early 80's.

My Contender Carbine stock sounds like that but mine didn't have that plate, as it was missing when I got it.  I made a grip cap out of a buttplate spacer and it's black, looks fine, just not original.

Thin, red rubber buttpad with warning about attaching a barrel less than 16"?

I wouldn't call my wood amazing, but the grip area is checkered, and I do like the stock I have.
