Slip on recoil pad to fit my 03A3
« on: February 27, 2006, 01:19:43 PM »
I am looking for a slip on recoil pad to fit on my 03A3. I have had this gun since 1965. I decided to clean it up and put a few rounds thru it to see if I could hit anything. I have searched Cabelas and Midway with no luck. I could not find one that would fit the dimension of my butt (stock)...2" X 4 3/4". As you guys know, it kicks like a mule...I need a pad so I can visit the range and shoot a few boxes without dislocating my shoulder.  ANY help is appreciated....Thanks in advance.

223shooter:  I have a Brit Jungle Carbine with a punishing recoil.  A slip on recoil pad made a world of difference.  I stuff a little bit of foam material into the toe of the pad for a better fit.  I wished I had done it many moons ago.

You should buy a PAST recoil pad to wear on your shoulder rather than one for your butt.

A butt mounted recoil pad still transmits the recoil to the same square area of your shoulder. A recoil pad such as the PAST spreads it over a greater area. I have shot .30-06 and similar rounds all day with one and haven't felt sore afterwards.

I finally found a slip on recoil pad that fits my 03A3. $20...not bad. Fits very well and really softens the recoil on my Springfield. It a "Shooters Friend", made by the Riecken's company in Evansville Indiana.  Cabelas has them listed also.

As Jack said, get a PAST recoil pad.  They are great as they spread the recoil over a larger area.  I use one for shooting my single shot .50BMG and wouldn't be without the Past pad.  IMHO.
