Gauntlets?
« on: March 06, 2006, 04:29:49 AM »
Has anyone found a GOOD way to repair gauntlet gloves?  Ive tried it with inertube repair kits with only limited success.

I have used the 'insulated polar paws' for the last few years, but they only last a season and my hands are always gettin wet by the time im done with beaver in the spring....is there a better pair out there??
Thanks

Tim, I use BeMacs myself.I have yet to find a gauntlet that can stand up to a hard trapping water line.I carry a couple pairs with me on trips.
I use shoe goo to reapair the punctures and tears--also use it on waders and hippers. It wears off ,so you have to reapply it every so often.
Wal Mart carries the shoe goo.

I have the red polar paws, and 4 pair of Bemac greens... When I get a hole I use the Waterbed Vinyl repair kit from Wal-Mart... and sometimes after the patch is dry I use a layer of marine goop smeared overtop...

Tim I bet you are tearing up your gauntlets reseting your bodygrippers? I tear mine at the thumb area all the time...I set by hand BUT I'm trying to use the setters more...still hate carrying them.

LaCrosse footwear sells a small tube of wader repair glue/sealant. It is I believe the same as a product called Aqua-Seal. It is simular to shoe goo but I believe more flexable when it dries.  I have used Aqua-seal and the wader repair on my dive gear and guantlets for years now and it is good stuff, hard to beat.
Wiebke Fur is making a new Guantlet that has texture for a better grip.  I have a pair and the grip texture is nice with wet and ice. They also added a re-enforcing strip by the thumb. This I found still does not help when you twist wire and the end goes threw there.  But over all I like their new glove and would recommend them.

I go through a lot of shoe goo, too. That stuff works nice for awhile but it doesn't hold up forever. Got one old pair of hippers that is probably more shoe goo now than original rubber. Oh well, they are comfortable and I'm too cheap to go buy me a new pair... :)
