Was in my tree (deer hunting) stand this afternoon, looking over a mowed pasture with scattered brush, when a coyote pops out of the woods and starts down the edge in my direction. He's about 200+ yds out so I decide to see how close he'll get. He stops and snoops once or twice and I figure he's gonna break off in the woods again before he gets to the feeder. He stops and looks. I'm tracking him and start to squeeze when I remember the hand squeek. I wet my whistle and start kissing the back of my hand. He throws his head up and comes around the feeder, stops one last time and I send a 100gr .243 his way. As I recover from the recoil I see him fall over like he is parallized. I figure that's it. I check him through the binocs and no movement. I go back to looking for deer and about a minute later I look his way and he's picking his head up and licking his side. He tries to crawl, but just spins in a circle. I send another round since I don't like to see anything suffer. Boom, no movement. A minute or 2 later I look over and he's still moving, just like before. Well, He@#! I draw down on him again and let one fly. Not 10 sec later he's still trying to crawl off. At this point I decide to get out of the stand go to the truck to get my 45 for a head shot, but then figure by the time I do all that, he'll be dead. Sure enough, no more movement. I figure I missed him with the last two but after I picked him up I got him at least twice. I'll have to skin him to know the whole story, but even so that is one tough coyote. Best forget those 22s.
